Emery Craig
Brass Ensemble Director
Emery Craig is from Canton, Michigan. He studied music education at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, MI. His primary instrument is bass trombone, but he is also proficient on euphonium and tuba. As a freelance musician, Emery has played in several orchestras and musicals including Plymouth Symphony Orchestra, Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra, The Carolina Philharmonic, Mannheimer Orchestra and Crosswell Opera House. In addition, Emery has served as an adjudicator and clinician.
No stranger to the marching arts, Emery taught high school band programs across the state of Michigan; most notably Plymouth-Canton Educational Park. PCEP is a Bands of America regional and national champion as well as a multi-time Michigan state champion.
Emery’s drum corps experience includes marching baritone in the Bluecoats Drum & Bugle Corps from Canton, OH where he received the outstanding rookie brass award. He joined the Bluecoats brass staff for the 2008-2011 seasons and was brass co-caption head in 2012. In 2013 Emery became brass caption head for the Blue Stars Drum & Bugle corps from LaCrosse, WI. That same year the corps returned to DCI finals and in 2014 advanced their placement under his leadership. While living in Europe, Emery was the music coordinator for the Blue Diamonds Drum & Bugle Corps from Nienhagen, Germany and also taught Starriders Drum & Bugle Corps from Bad Münder, Germany. Both German corps compete in Drum Corps Europe (DCE).
In the fall of 2014, Emery was selected as a regular army band musician and enlisted in the United States Army. As a bass trombonist he has served in the 82nd Airborne Division Band at Fort Liberty, North Carolina. During that time, he deployed to Kuwait and Iraq performing with the brass quintet in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. His career took him abroad to serve in the United States Army Europe and Africa Band & Chorus located in Sembach, Germany. Emery was selected for the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) International Band in Casteau, Belgium. At SHAPE, he plays bass trombone in the NATO Jazz Orchestra and tuba in the brass quintet. The SHAPE International Band travels throughout Europe providing musical support to the 32 allied nations of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
After seven years living abroad in Europe, Emery is excited to return to the United States and join the brass team for the Crossmen! He looks forward to making music with the talented members and staff of the corps.
