Tim Mikan

Tim is a native of St. Augustine, FL. He received formal jazz saxophone training at Florida Community College at Jacksonville and Florid State University. While studying music, Tim found his intro to winter guard as a Charter Member with Ancient City Ensemble. Tim’s winter guard performance credits include: Ancient City Ensemble (2000, 2001) and Fantasia Winter Guard (2003, 2004).
Tim has served as a choreographer, consultant, and drill designer for middle school, high school, collegiate, and commercial ensembles since 2000. He currently is the Director of Color Guards at Riverside City College (RCC), which includes: Fantasia Winter Guard, Fantasia A, and the marching band color guard. Tim has been and instructor at RCC since 2005, show designer since 2010, and Director of Color Guards since 2016 (founding ‘Fantasia A’ in 2020). He also has instructed Palm Desert Charter Middle School since 2021.
Tim has been writing marching band drill since 2002. Along with writing for many bands across the U.S, he has also written for Millennium Drum and Bugle Corps from Italy and Vessel Drum and Bugle Corps from California. Tim has been an instructor for The Academy D&B Corps, Gold D&B Corps, and most recently, the Crossmen as the color guard caption manager.
Tim was an administrator for Marching Auxiliaries as a clinic director, organizing dance and auxiliary camps at universities throughout the summer from 2005-2015. He has been a clinician for the Texas Color Guard Circuit, West Coast Winter Guard, and WGI’s Spinfest! On Tour. Tim served as a member of the Winter Guard International Board of Directors from 2016-2021. He is a co-founder and the current Director of Membership for the winter guard circuit, WestCoast Winter Guard.
